Origins: Rosemary has long been valued as a sacred plant. It was popular with the Romans and Greeks as a symbol of love and death. It has been used by many civilisations for medicine and magic and during the plague it was worn round the neck. It was also burned in public places for its antiseptic qualities. A small shrub, it can grow to 3 feet (90cms) high with green-grey leaves and white-blue flowers. The oil is extracted from the flowering tops of the shrub and has a powerful warm woody aroma. Native of the Mediterranean region but is also grown commercially in England, China and California.

Therapeutic Effects: A good stimulant used especially for memory and circulatory problems. Also used for breathing, bronchitis, chest problems. Helps alopecia and dandruff. Good for diarrhoea and flatulence and also used in obesity.
