Origins:
Considered the 'King of Oils'. A single kilogram of oil is extracted from about 8 million flowers, supposedly hand picked before dawn, and therefore the reason Jasmine Oil is so expensive. An ancient favourite of the Arabs, Indians and Chinese, it was extensively used in a wide variety of ways including perfuming the body, scenting the rooms and flavouring teas. The flowers are strung in garlands and presented to honoured guests by Hindus. It was introduced from Persia to Europe sometime in the 16th century.
The Jasmine Grandiflora species is a small bush native to the East Indies and Egypt and is now cultivated in France, Spain, Morocco, Italy, India and Egypt. Its delicate white flowers produce a honey-sweet aroma with fruity undertones and the oil is deep red in colour.
