Commonly used for treating:
Grown in the Far East, East Indies, India, Jamaica, Brazil and China. It was considered by the people of ancient times to be one of the most important aromatic spices. Legend says that King Solomon was given Cinnamon Leaf by the Queen of Sheba and was one of the spices used to anoint the Ark of the Covenant, which were said to contain the scrolls of Jewish holy law.
Cinnamon has a distinct hot, peppery taste and aroma. It is the twigs and leaves which are distilled to produce a bittersweet pungent essential oil which is dark browny-yellow in colour.
It is useful for fatigue and depression and can be used as a tonic for the respiratory and digestive system. Especially good for coughs, colds and flu. Soothes nausea, stomach ache and diarrhoea and has strong antiseptic qualities. Often used as a flavouring in food and drinks.
Do not use during pregnancy. It is a powerful oil and should only be used in small amounts, low concentration and with care. Mucous membrane irritant so only use in concentrations of 3% or less. Keep out of reach of children. For external use only. If ingested seek medical help. Can irritate if used undiluted. Store in a cool dark place. There may be other cautions not listed.
